Great photo essay. I see your point about wanting the escape world to be different from this world, but maybe it would feel different to amass money and goods from the back of a virtual dragon. I found most interesting the different ways that people related to their avatars: wanting to make them exactly like themselves (a kind of reproduction/immortality?) vs. making the avatar totally different (fantasy, escape, wish fulfillment?) I haven't even heard of most of these games either. I wonder how people become involved in this stuff. It is also strange how it creates a kind of community in the real world as well. Fascinating stuff.
